“We remain determined to develop by building on our privileged relationship with OP Cobrenord and the Porcher boat owner in particular. And in spite of fierce competition, we have had a very good year”, says Noël Le Graët, Chairman of the eponymous group, before handing over to his daughter on 25th of February, the day of the inauguration of the new Gallen premises in Erquy. “I am really proud to continue to develop this regional family group, with its long-term vision,” says Valérie Le Graët, Managing Director and President of Fipêche. This official opening concerns Gallen and Pêcheries d’Armorique, two companies of the Fipêche entity (with Celtarmor, Halios...) of the Le Graët group, which launched into the food industry with Celtigel in 1986. Gallen joined Fipêche in 2017. “We have three sites in Brittany,” explains the manager, François Gallen, “and the Erquy site was becoming too small. We therefore created these new premises of nearly 500 m2 to ensure greater comfort for our fifteen or so employees, who manually cut and fillet many different species intended for restaurants and retailers”. Pêcheries d’Armorique also benefits from this move. Led by Stéphane Jouanno, they will be able to expand into the neighbouring building: “This move provides us with extra space which will allow us to completely restructure our activities and processes,” he points out. On the quays of the port, the Fisheries fish trading site processes fresh fish for supermarkets, manufacturers and Rungis. Another plant, implemented in the Jeannettes area in 1997, is more broadly dedicated to exports, with the usual flows towards Spain and Italy, particularly for cephalopods. “Our two types of activities are complementary, state in unison François Gallen and Stéphane Jouanno, between small-scale fishing boats, scallops and deep-sea fishing.” While Gallen tends to buy between Brest and Saint-Quay Portrieux, the Pêcheries d’Armorique work on a wider area between Zeebruges (Belgium) and La Cotinière. A geography which makes it possible to reduce the uncertainty linked to Brexit and to underline the good news of this investment in fisheries and the fish trade..
